This is simply tacky.
If you don't have the balls to actually talk to the person, there is no reason you should be considering a relationship of any kind. You need professional help, not a relationship.

Oh, I agree. Yikes.
This also reminds me of the function on gmail where you can adjust the "time" the email was sent. Made me think of papers being due in college, and if you thought the prof wasn't actually on the computer, you could just send it a few hours late. Seems very deceptive. I'm not so much a fan. Not that it couldn't have it's uses, but when you can no longer trust the time the email says it was sent, or that your phone does say you missed a call. . . that bugs me.
